Weligama Sri Lanka Jayawickreme Foundation

The Jayawickreme Foundation was formed in December 2001 strictly as a non political, non religious, non ethnic, non profit making foundation with the aim of assisting and helping the poorest of the poor in Weligama of the Matara district of Sri Lanka.

The Clowns made the rural kids and adults laugh. Everybody really forgot their worries for a short while. Actually none of them saw clowns before, knew what clowns are! People riding bics and motorbics, three weelers, busses and pedestrians stopped on the road and watched. A merry, jolly road block. Fun and joy for everybody. >>
Die Kinder und Erwachsenen kannten keine Clowns, haben zum ersten Mal in ihrem Leben Clowns gesehen. Alle haben so sehr aus tiefstem Herzen gelacht. Die grossen, dunklen Augen haben hell geleuchtet und gestrahlt. Gross und Klein haben gejubelt und geklascht: Armut, Sorgen und Probleme wurden weggelacht fuer eine volle Stunde lang. Busse, Tuktuks, Fussgaenger, Fahr-und Motorraeder bleiben auf der Hauptstrasse vor dem Education Center stehen. Sie hoerten die Musik, sahen die Clowns: Dicker Verkehrsstau, nichts ging mehr auf der Strasse, dafuer gings tief in die Herzen und machte noch mehr Menschen froehlich! Lachen statt Traenen. >>

Chairman Serendib Stiftung Hamburg with friends visited the Serendib Library and other projects of the Jayawickreme Foundation.

Conferring of Honorary Titles to Sujith and Susanne Jayawickreme

Sujith and Susanne Jayawickreme were the first couple ever who were awarded titles by the “Sri Rohana Sangha Sabawa”. The titles were conferred during a special ceremony in the temple on Pigeon Island in Matara. 50 Priests from all over the South and many distinguished guests were present at this rare occasion on Saturday, 25th July 2009.
